Casa do Choro
From 2022 to 2024, CNPC Brasil was one of the sponsors of Instituto Casa do Choro, an institution created in 1999 by a group of musicians, producers, and artists who wanted to create a space for musical education and the preservation and dissemination of popular music, especially the Brazilian music genre called choro. Officially listed as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Brazil, choro combines elements of Portuguese popular music, African music, and European ballroom dances, creating a unique sound that is appreciated by many across the globe.
In addition to having a space for live music, Casa do Choro is also a music school. Its Portable Music School has taught more than 20,000 adults since its opening in 2000, and its collection includes over 20,000 scores available for free public research and two thousand 78-rpm records and LPs.
Associação de Arte e Cultura RioMont
Associação de Arte e Cultura RioMont is a non-profit organization whose mission is to strengthen the ties between Brazil and China through cultural, sports and educational projects.
In July 2024, the dance performance Sonhos Conectados: Uma Dança Entre Brasil e China, by Companhia RioMont de Dança Tradicional Chinesa, was sponsored by CNPC Brasil. Originated from a unique dance residency at Theatro Municipal, in Rio de Janeiro, which integrated Brazilian and Chinese cultures, the performance tells the stories of a Brazilian dancer and a Chinese dancer. Separated by the vastness of the ocean, they share the dream of dance and movement as a form of expression and union. While one dancer surrenders to the contagious rhythm of samba and gafieira in Brazil, the other dancer, in China, is carried away by the beauty and grace of traditional Chinese dance.
